Update on plastering

We have plastered about 75% of the older part of the property and have started plastering the new extension.  This week we have plastered the two ensuites, the dressing room and the master bedroom.  With this much plastering, the building can get damp very quickly – plastering the walls in wet plaster introduces a lot of water in the building.  Although the ground source heat pump is up and running, we have also left a dehumidifer running to accelerate the drying process.

Next week we will make a start on plastering the kitchen.  My guess is that it will take most of the week to get the ktichen plastered.

The plasterers have made good progress this week. The two ensuites, dressing room and the master bedroom have been completely plastered. With the ground source heat pump running, the plaster is drying out fairly quickly. To accelerate the drying process we are using a dehumidifer.

Hello there again, still a great blog here and now everything it coming
Together boy is it taking good shape! I am after a recommendation if possible as I’m guessing your house will be lime pointed. Who did this? I’ve been recommended a guy from holmfirth but I wondered if you used him or somebody else? Thanks, Aaron.

Hello there, good blog as ever and i’m pleased to see things are coming all very quickly now. I was wondering who did the pointing on your house outside as from the pics i think it is lime. And over in Halifax i’m struggling to find somebody who does lime pointing professionally.

    Thanks, Aaron.

Hiya. You are correct – the house (and the new extension for that matter) is lime pointed. It is hydraulic lime and Nosterfield river sand mix as recommended by the architect. The lime and the sand can be acquired from Womersleys in Dewsbury. http://www.womersleys.co.uk

Our builder – HD9 Construction – have done all of the pointing. It is not technically difficult – even I managed to do some. I suspect any competent builder should be able to do it. The key will be finding someone who has some experience doing it.

I don’t know when you are thinking of doing the pointing, but we have had to work with the weather over the last few weeks. It can’t be too cold (it needs to be at least 2C otherwise there is a chance the frost will damage it) and it can’t rain on the pointing within a few hours (otherwise, it may get washed out).

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for that and sorry about the double post. We are planning for later in the year and hopefully repointing our home. I’ll keep looking.
